It seems as though there’s this never-ending search for the next best thing in the young adult book-to-film adaptation world. What will trump The Twilight Saga? What will match the success of The Hunger Games? With the growing craze, there are loads of possibilities out there, but the one I’ve got my money on is Neil Burger’s Divergent.

While the widespread success of young adult book-to-film adaptations like The Twilight Saga, Harry Potter and The Hunger Games does facilitate some serious potential for a big-screen version of Orson Scott Card’s Ender’s Game, it also comes with the added pressure of ensuring that the Ender’s Game movie stands out.
Before fielding rapid-fire Q&A questions at the Ender’s Game panel at San Diego Comic-Con, Asa Butterfield and Hailee Steinfeld sat down and had some fun telling us how they might fare if they ever really had to compete in the Ender’s Game Battle Room.
If The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones isn’t on your radar, after Saturday’s Hall H panel, it should be. Screen Gems unveiled an impressively suspenseful and rather brutal sequence from the film that culminates in an ideal payoff – Jamie Campbell Bower’s Jace Wayland nonchalantly stepping in to save the day.
I’d say 2012 is the year of The Hunger Games, but 2011 kind of felt like just that, too, and I have a feeling the same will be true of 2013, 2014 and 2015. We knew The Hunger Gameswould be big the moment the world was consumed by the first film’s casting craze, but now that the film is here and it’s very good, it’s even more likely that Katniss and co. will nestle their way into pop culture and our lives in general, and stick it out for the long haul.
We may be in a Hunger Games lull, but it’s still all about young adult book-to-film adaptations and the New York Comic-Con spotlight is on Beautiful Creatures.
Welcome to the Bruce Campbell show! Yes, this New York Comic-Con panel was all about the Evil Dead remake, but Campbell, his bright red jacket and his extraordinary sense of humor certainly commanded the spotlight. Campbell took the stage not as his iconic character Ash, but as Evil Dead’s producer, and was joined by the new iteration’s leading lady, Suburgatory’s Jane Levy, as well as the film’s director, Fede Alvarez.
Wouldn’t it have been cool if someone doused Chloe Moretz in pig’s blood, and out of rage she sent objects flying throughout the room and the IGN Theater erupted in pure chaos? Sadly there’s no firsthand account of Carrie’s rage to report from New York Comic-Con, but Moretz, Julianne Moore, producer Kevin Misher and director Kimberly Peirce did offer up a sense of what we can expect from the highly anticipated remake.
Before diving into San Diego Comic-Con 2012, unless you were in a basement without reception or happened to be flying across the globe on a plane with no Wi-Fi, you’ve heard about the big Hunger Games: Catching Fire casting updates that dropped yesterday. We’ve got Christopher Plummer’s daughter, Amanda Plummer, on board to play Wiress and supposedly Sam Claflin and Tony Shalhoub are at the top of the list for the roles of Finnick and Beetee, respectively.
