Gym-Time Motivation

Fortunately The Hunger Games is a very fictional event, but that doesn’t mean we can’t use the concept of having to fight for our lives as motivation at the gym. Slip on this tank top from Fast Designs and pump up the Hunger Games soundtrack. The moment “Horn of Plenty” kicks in, you’ll be standing tall and proud, pumped to show off some physical prowess.

‘Catching Fire’: Your Guide to the Victors

catching_fire_character_guide_mainThe 75th Hunger Games is upon us and in honor of the third Quarter Quell, things are going down a little differently. Rather than reaping two contenders between the ages of 12 and 18 from each of the country’s 12 districts, tributes come from the pool of victors. You already know Katniss and Peeta, so meet the experienced killers who will try to steal their title when The Hunger Games: Catching Fire arrives on November 22.

District 1: Cashmere & Gloss

If you’ve seen The Hunger Games, you know what coming from District 1 means – career tributes. Katniss dubs Cashmere and Gloss “classically beautiful” siblings. When she was younger, she watched the pair dominate their games for two consecutive years, which would put the duo in their 20s. The entertainment value of their win streak made Cashmere and Gloss Capitol favorites and now that they’re back, they’re the ones to beat and they know it.

Interview: Loosies' Jaimie Alexander

Talk about an up and coming actress; Jaimie Alexander had a nice run on ABC Family’s Kyle XY then hit the big screen, big time as Sif in Thor and now, amongst a number of other projects, she’s got Peter Facinelli’s Loosies.

Alexander plays Lucy, one of Bobby’s (Facinelli) former flings. The two hit it off one night, but the next day he split turning what could have been the start of something special into a one-night stand. Making matters worse, Lucy’s pregnant and, three months later, bumps into Bobby and tells him the big news. Naturally, things are awkward and even a bit hostel, but it turns out there is something special between Lucy and Bobby and, despite the past, they still may have that connection. Now Lucy just has to figure out her financial situation and what to do about Bobby’s pickpocketing career.

In honor of the January 11th release of Loosies, Alexander came back to New York City, Loosies’ shooting location, to sit down and talk all about making the film. She runs through everything from the casting process to her working relationship with Facinelli, which was particularly rich, him having written the script and much more. On top of that, Alexander touched on the status of Thor 2, and appeased the Hunger Games fanatic in me, sharing her thoughts on my suggestion of her portraying Johanna Mason in Catching Fire.

See it all for yourself in the video interview below.

‘The Hunger Games’ Countdown: Catching Fire At San Diego Comic-Con

News has been rather slow lately, but, just in time for San Diego Comic Con Lionsgate opted to fire things up with a brand new poster (and a motion poster at that!) Love for The Hunger Games aside, this is a really beautiful piece of promotional material. As a standard stagnant design, it’s quite stimulating, boasting rich detail. Toss in the motion and music aspects and you’ve got something that’s not just fun to look at, but a piece with the power to convey the tone of the film.

The Hunger Games at San Diego Comic Con

Funny thing, just like the concept of the Mockingjay catches on in the trilogy, it’s taking a similar course in reality. Had you not read the books, odds are you’d have no clue what this symbol means. However, those Mockingjay pins distributed at Comic-Con were one of the hottest swag items there. There were lines of people at the Lionsgate booth waiting for them on a regular basis and I’d like to bet a large majority weren’t even familiar with the source material.

That being said, even though The Hunger Games didn’t light up Hall H, it still made quite the impact on SDCC. Lionsgate really deserves some credit in general. Not only was their booth effectively designed — with two floors and appropriate places for fans to attend signings and receive free goodies in an orderly fashion without clogging up the aisles — but the studio was just incredibly generous, something that goes a long way at an event like this. The employees were constantly handing out Hunger Games posters and Mockingjay pins and the booth was always abuzz with signing sessions, like one with Warrior’s Joel Edgerton and Tom Hardy as well as a Conan the Barbarian one with Jason Momoa. And, while the setup was constantly busy, it still always felt accessible.

SDCC 2011: All Good Things Must Come To An End … With A Giveaway!

I can’t believe it, but this is officially it; my coverage of San Diego Comic Con 2011 has come to a close. For five incredibly long days, the experience went by in a flash. The action was non-stop from the moment I touched down in San Diego and while it was extremely exhausting and probably one of the most trying working experiences I’ve ever gone through, it was beyond worth it.

So, what’d you think? Did you like my coverage choices? Were the formats I chose to report in effective? Do let me know because I’m thrilled to say, it looks as though I’ll be returning to Comic Con next year!

I do know I learned quite a few things for myself while out west. First off, I need to pack more food than a box of granola bars, or at least make time to pick up some items at a local supermarket. Between running around collecting coverage and then writing it up, there’s little to no time to grab a bite. Second, if I want to cover a panel, I’ve either got to get on line at about 5am or hunt down a press pass. I arrived for The Walking Dead panel over three hours early and the line to get into Ballroom 20 was already about 10,000 people long!

SDCC 2011: Thursday Wrap Up And Photos

And that’s a wrap on my first full busy day at San Diego Comic Con. I kicked things off at the press conference for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1, which featured Elizabeth Reaser, Ashley Greene, Nikki Reed, Julia Jones and Booboo Stewart after which Bill Condon, Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner took the stage. Before wrapping up things with Summit Entertainment, I spoke with the writer of one of the studio’s next book-to-film adaptations, Warm Bodies author Isaac Marion. Keep an eye out for that interview later this week.

From there it was off to the convention center where I spent some time checking out the goods including vendor booths like MIMOBOT (more to come from them later this week) and studio presentations like Lionsgates’ booth which is all decked out in Hunger Games’ flaming glory.

Time flew fast, so from there it was a brisk walk over to Ballroom 20 where author George R.R. Martin proudly presented the cast and writers who brought the first book of his A Song of Ice and Fire series to life, Game of Thrones. Lena Headey, Emilia Clarke, Peter Dinklage, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Kit Harington, Jason Momoa and writers, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss were all on hand to talk about their experience working on the show’s first season, the goodies that will come with the season one DVD as well as a bit of what to expect for season two and beyond.
