Interview: Winter’s Tale’s Colin Farrell, Jessica Brown Findlay, Jennifer Connelly, Eva Marie Saint & Akiva Goldsman

Winters_TaleLife isn’t a fairy tale.  Life requires life beyond loss and according to writer-director-producer Akiva Goldsman, that’s why we need fairy tales for adults like his new movie, Winter’s Tale.  The book-to-film adaptation stars Colin Farrell as a thief named Peter Lake.  Peter’s perfectly fine stealing to get by, but after crossing paths with Jessica Brown Findlay’s Beverly Penn, he abandons everything he’s known for something he’s experiencing for the very first time – true love.

Just ahead of the film’s Valentine’s Day debut, Goldsman, Farrell and Brown Findlay as well as co-stars Jennifer Connelly who portrays Virginia, a mother with an ailing daughter whose fate becomes intertwined with Peter Lake’s, and Eva Marie Saint who steps in as the older version of Beverly’s younger sister, all sat down for a press conference in New York City.  Check out what the gang had to say about the challenge of enticing an audience to suspend disbelief, their personal experiences with miracles, the ups and downs of shooting the film’s most intimate scene and more.

Interview: That Awkward Moment’s Imogen Poots

Imogen_Poots_That_Awkward_MomentSo … according to the movie That Awkward Moment, there’s this point in a relationship called “The So” during which someone turns to you and says, “So …” and follows it up by asking a relationship defining question like, “Where is this going” or “What are we doing?” That absolutely can be an uncomfortable scenario, but for ladies who really know how to pick them, like Imogen Poot’s Ellie, the awkwardness doesn’t stop there.  In That Awkward MomentZac EfronMiles Teller and Michael B. Jordan play a trio of friends who make a pact to indulge in the single life together to help take Mikey’s mind off his divorce. However, shortly after making that pact, Jason spots Ellie. He may initially peg her as yet another brief fling, but soon realizes he can’t tear himself away. No one has ever had this effect on him and he’s determined to learn more – even if it means making quite a few awkward mistakes in the process.

In honor of That Awkward Moment’s January 31st release, Poots hit the New York City press circuit and sat down with Collider to reveal which of her co-stars held doors for her, the one who’s most like his character and who can turn on the charm via improvisation. Read about all of that as well as Poots’ least favorite pickup line, the key to Gramercy Park, her excitement to work with Josh Boone on his upcoming feature, Pretenders, and loads more in the interview below.

Interview: That Awkward Moment’s Zac Efron, Miles Teller, Michael B. Jordan, Imogen Poots & Tom Gormican

That_Awkward_MomentRemember that time Miles Teller tried to hold Michael B. Jordan’s hand and then Zac Efron got within kissing distance of Teller? Now that was an awkward moment!

In their latest film, That Awkward Moment, Efron, Teller and Jordan star as Jason, Daniel and Mikey, respectively. Jason enjoys his quick flings, Daniel’s got a good thing going with his wing-woman, Chelsea (Mackenzie Davis), and Mikey “checked the boxes” and is enjoying the married life – until he’s not.

When Mikey’s wife suddenly demands a divorce, Jason and Daniel step in to make it all better by making a pact to stay single and play the field together. Trouble is, that’s when Jason spots Ellie (Imogen Poots) at the end of a bar and for the first time in his life, one night might not be enough.

Interview: I, Frankenstein’s Yvonne Strahovski

Yvonne_StrahovskiOne day she’s taking out her enemies using rat poison in Dexter and the next, she’s trying to re-animate a rat Frankenstein-style in I, Frankenstein.  In the Stuart Beattie-directed film, Yvonne Strahovski steps in as Terra, an electrophysiologist employed by Bill Nighy’s Wessex to figure out a way to bring the dead back to life. She manages to make some progress with the aforementioned rat, but it isn’t until Victor Frankenstein’s monster, Adam (Aaron Eckhart), comes back to town that Terra gets closer than ever to cracking the code of re-animation. However, that doesn’t mean the code is necessarily safe to share. Hit the jump for more from the I, Frankenstein star.

At the recent New York City press day, Strahovski sat down with us to discuss going from not being very “scientifically minded” to playing a believable electrophysiologist, her first go-around on a CGI-heavy set, how she felt about the way Dexter went out and more.

Interview: I, Frankenstein Writer-Director Stuart Beattie

I_FrankensteinIt all began back in April of 2011 when Kevin Grevioux’s graphic novel I, Frankenstein was first snatched up for a feature film adaptation, and now, nearly five years later, Frankenstein’s monster is finally returning to the big screen.

Writer-director Stuart Beattie took Grevioux’s source material and turned it into an epic battle between demons and gargoyles with a quest for companionship and humanity at the core.  Shortly after his creation, Frankenstein’s monster, Adam (Aaron Eckhart), takes off to live his life in isolation. However, when Prince Naberius’ determination to reanimate a corpse of his own puts the world at risk, Adam must return to find his place in society and to ensure his creator’s discovery never lands in Naberius’ hands.

Interview: That Awkward Moment’s Miles Teller

that-awkward-moment-poster-miles-teller-405x600Perhaps you missed Rabbit Hole, but between Footloose21 & OverThe Spectacular Now, all the buzz coming out of Sundance for Whiplash and the fact that he’s clearly earned himself a place in the incessant blockbuster rumor mill, it’s obvious that Miles Teller is one to watch. In his latest release, That Awkward Moment, Teller steps in as Daniel, a 20-something living in New York City who’s busy at work by day and picking up ladies at night. When Mikey (Michael B. Jordan) gets hit with a divorce, Daniel and Jason (Zac Efron) decide it’s time to embrace the single life together. However, it’s easier said than done because when Daniel starts to fall for his wing-woman, Chelsea (Mackenzie Davis), he’s genuinely thrilled to start the relationship, but just can’t build up the nerve to tell his friends.

With That Awkward Moment heading towards its January 31st wide release, Collider got the chance to sit down with Teller and discuss how the film has made him an honorary love guru. Check out Teller’s dating advice as well as what he told us about his preparation process, the challenge of establishing a comedic rhythm, his audition for Star Wars: Episode VII, potentially beefing up for Fantastic Four, his thoughts on the final book of the Divergent trilogy and much more in the interview below.

Interview: I, Frankenstein’s Aaron Eckhart

Aaron_EckhartDr. Frankenstein’s creature is back, but in brand new form. He’s still got the scars, but Aaron Eckhart’s Adam is a “lean, mean fitting machine,” kicking some demon and gargoyle you-know-what in the modern world.

I, Frankenstein kicks off with a freshly minted Adam heading out of town in an effort to keep to himself. Trouble is, Prince Naberius has an agenda and the only way he can fulfill that agenda is by getting his hands on Adam and figuring out how to bring a soul-less human corpse back to life. At the ripe old age of 200-years-old, Adam returns to civilization to put a stop to Naberius once and for all by joining the ongoing war between demons and gargoyles, and ensuring the secretes behind his creation never land in enemy hands.

Interview: I, Frankenstein’s Aaron Eckhart & Yvonne Strahovski

I_Frankenstein_1Victor Frankenstein may have successfully put the pieces together to re-animate a creation consisting of 12 used body parts from eight different corpses, but there’s one thing Frankenstein couldn’t give his monster – a soul. Aaron Eckhart leads Stuart Beattie’s I, Frankenstein as Frankenstein’s monster, here called Adam.

After being abandoned by his creator, Adam keeps to himself until he winds up in the middle of a war between demons and gargoyles. Now, while trying to figure out where he belongs in the world, Adam also must fight to keep the formula behind his anatomy out of the wrong hands.

Interview: Short Term 12′s Kaitlyn Dever

Kaitlyn_DeverThings got crazy at SXSW 2013. So crazy in fact, that it was impossible to cover everything and I opted to skip out on a little something called “Short Term 12.” Nine months later, I had seen the film a half dozen times and named it my second favorite movie of the year. But even though I missed out on a few months of celebrating the film’s prowess, now I can watch it as many times as I’d like because “Short Term 12” is due out on DVD, Blu-ray and digital platforms on Tuesday, January 14th.

The film stars Brie Larson as Grace, a young woman working as a supervisor in a group home for at-risk teens. Grace knows everyone. She knows how to get Luis (Kevin Hernandez) out of bed in the morning, she’s mindful of Keith’s (Keith Stanfield) temper and she can beat Sammy (Alex Calloway) in a race to the edge of the facility property. Kaitlyn Dever’s Jayden, on the other hand, proves to be a particularly unique challenge and not just because she’s suffering through a troubling upbringing, but also because Grace sees a lot of herself in Jayden.

To support “Short Term 12’s” upcoming DVD release, Dever took the time to talk to ShockYa about bringing Jayden to screen in a staggeringly collaborative way. Check out what the rising star told us about director Destin Cretton’s unique on-set environment, getting the chance to develop the character on her own, the challenge of working in an ensemble and loads more in the interview below, and be sure to catch “Short Term 12” on DVD, Blu-ray or digitally tomorrow. I truly cannot recommend it enough.

Interview: Lone Survivor Producer Randall Emmett

Randall_EmmettRandall Emmett has come a long way since his gig as Mark Wahlberg’s assistant.  He’s got over 70 completed titles to his name.  Six of those films have 2013 release dates, one of which grossed over $131 million worldwide and another put $122 million in the bank, and now there’s Lone Survivor, which not only could be on its way to putting up a big number at the box office, but it’s also getting an awards season push.

The film is an adaptation of Marcus Luttrell’s book Lone Survivor: The Eyewitness Account of Operation Redwing and the Lost Heroes of SEAL Team 10, which recounts his true experience during a mission in the mountains of Afghanistan during which three of his Navy SEAL brothers lost their lives in an ambush.  In the film, Wahlberg steps in as Luttrell while Taylor Kitsch play Lieutenant Michael Murphy, Emile Hirsch portrays Gunner’s Mate 2nd Class Danny Dietz and Ben Foster takes on the role of Sonar Technician 2nd Class Matthew Axelson. In the film, the four men are assigned to neutralize a high-level al-Qaeda operative, but find themselves totally isolated and fighting for their lives when their op is compromised.
