Review: Thor: The Dark World

The_The_Dark_World_Poster1“Thor: The Dark World” is simply Marvel’s most fun movie.

Way back when, Odin’s (Anthony Hopkins) father, Bor, supposedly annihilated a race called the Dark Elves, thwarting their attempt to shroud the universe in darkness using a weapon called the Aether. Trouble is, the leader of the Dark Elves, Malekith (Christopher Eccleston), and a few cohorts abandoned their race mid-fight and managed to escape so they could get another chance to see their plan through in the future. In present day, about two years after the events of “Thor,” Thor is reveling in the success of his efforts to bring peace to the Nine Realms. However, before the Asgardians can enjoy this universal accord, the Nine Realms align, portals open, and the Dark Elves return.

“Thor: The Dark World” is easily one of Marvel’s most entertaining films. It’s got action, adventure, heart and some of the best superhero movie comedy. There are some logic issues, but the film is such a joy and thrill that the pleasure of the illusion leaves no room for misgivings.

Review: Loosies

Having never watched Nurse Jackie, for the past few years, Peter Facinelli has been Carlisle Cullen and Carlisle Cullen alone. However, thanks to Facinelli’s itch to write, we get Loosies and even though Facinelli’s writing is average, it really shows he’s an incredibly talented actor. He seems to have some ability in the writing department, but now I’m more excited for The Twilight Saga to come to a close so Facinelli can sink his teeth into some meatier roles.

Bobby (Facinelli) may look like a stockbroker, but the suit and briefcase are merely a front – if that briefcase is even his; Bobby is a pickpocket. Thanks to the massive debt his father left behind, Bobby’s got no choice but to work for Jax (Vincent Gallo) snagging watches and wallets so he can keep a roof over his mother’s head.

Life’s tough enough as it is, but then, in comes Lucy (Jaimie Alexander), one of Bobby’s former flings. Turns out, their one night stand left her pregnant and thanks to her own financial troubles, she’s got no choice, but to turn to Bobby for help. Also returning to bite Bobby in the you-know-what, a badge Bobby swiped off a New York City detective (Michael Madsen). When the detective’s superior demands he get the badge back or else, the detective pulls out all the stops to make Bobby pay for his crime.

Interview: Loosies' Jaimie Alexander

Talk about an up and coming actress; Jaimie Alexander had a nice run on ABC Family’s Kyle XY then hit the big screen, big time as Sif in Thor and now, amongst a number of other projects, she’s got Peter Facinelli’s Loosies.

Alexander plays Lucy, one of Bobby’s (Facinelli) former flings. The two hit it off one night, but the next day he split turning what could have been the start of something special into a one-night stand. Making matters worse, Lucy’s pregnant and, three months later, bumps into Bobby and tells him the big news. Naturally, things are awkward and even a bit hostel, but it turns out there is something special between Lucy and Bobby and, despite the past, they still may have that connection. Now Lucy just has to figure out her financial situation and what to do about Bobby’s pickpocketing career.

In honor of the January 11th release of Loosies, Alexander came back to New York City, Loosies’ shooting location, to sit down and talk all about making the film. She runs through everything from the casting process to her working relationship with Facinelli, which was particularly rich, him having written the script and much more. On top of that, Alexander touched on the status of Thor 2, and appeased the Hunger Games fanatic in me, sharing her thoughts on my suggestion of her portraying Johanna Mason in Catching Fire.

Interview: Loosies Writer, Producer And Star Peter Facinelli

When you’re a part of an absolutely monstrous franchise like Peter Facinelli, it’s easy to forget there’s life for the actor beyond The Twilight Saga. However, not only does Facinelli have quite the list of titles to his name, but he’s been working on a number of other project between the Twilight films, the most recent of which is something he not only starred in, but wrote and produced, too, Loosies.

Facinelli plays Bobby, a pickpocket doing whatever it takes to make a living for him and his mother. Problem is, Bobby’s wallet and watch-swiping skills also work for police badges and Lt. ‘Sully’ Sullivan (Michael Madsen) isn’t happy his badge now belongs to Bobby. To complicate matters further, Bobby bumps into an old flame, Lucy (Jaimie Alexander). Sure, the two hit it off, but when Bobby turned their nice date into a one night stand, the relationship soured, making it all the more troublesome when Lucy tells Bobby she’s pregnant.

Even with a thriving acting career, there comes a point when you’ve read so many scripts that you’ve just got to give it a go yourself and that’s what happened to Facinelli. But, of course, it isn’t as easy as putting pen to paper, writing a draft and making it happen; Facinelli first wrote Loosies seven years ago and it was only just a couple of years ago that the stars aligned and his story could become a reality. And now, in honor of Loosies’ January 11th release, Facinelli sat down to recount the whole experience from writing the script, to casting and more. Check out everything Facinelli had to say about Loosies as well as a little about the Twilight grand finale in the video interview below.

Review: Thor

As someone who isn’t up-to-date on her comic book reading, these films tend to be a bit of a blur. However, lately, that sensation fades after the films’ releases. Thanks to Marvel, over the years, I’ve gotten to know tons of endlessly fascinating characters like Iron Man, Spider-Man and more. Of course there were less memorable ones like Daredevil and the Punisher, but rest assured, Thor certainly earns his place in the latter group.

Meet Thor (Chris Hemsworth), the son of Odin (Anthony Hopkins), the king of Asgard. As the aging Odin approaches the end of his reign, he must select one of his two sons, the all-powerful Thor or the magical Loki (Tom Hiddleston), to assume the throne. While Thor’s seemingly the favorite, his decision to travel to the world of the Frost Giants to violently put an end to their long-term feud with the Asgardians, leaves his father no choice but to banish him for the threat his reckless behavior poses to their people.

Thor arrives on Earth via a charged tornado, the force setting off the radars of a local cosmologist, Jane (Natalie Portman). Jane rushes out to the scene of the action with Dr. Erik Selvig (Stellan Skarsgard) and their college intern, Darcy (Kat Dennings). That’s when she literally drives her truck straight into Thor. While Thor tries to figure out the oddities of this foreign realm, Jane and her team take him to be a guy who’s just out of his mind. However, as she starts to piece together the facts of his arrival and simply get to know Thor as a man, she’s compelled to believe.
