Interview: Bachelorette Writer-Director Leslye Headland

Sure, “Bachelorette” is fiction, but after sitting down with writer-director Leslye Headland, it’s quite clear that the film is as vivacious as it is because of the honest chemistry between her cast and because of her fun-loving and spunky attitude,

The film stars Kirsten Dunst, Lizzy Caplan and Isla Fisher as Regan, Gena and Katie, a trio with a friendship dating way back to high school. The ladies may be all grown up, but when they reunite for Becky’s (Rebel Wilson) wedding, immaturity and irresponsibility take over; they indulge in way too much coke, rip Becky’s wedding dress and have to spend the entire night before the wedding trying to clean up their mess.

The behavior in “Bachelorette” is outrageous and deplorable, but downright hilarious and Headland knows it. Thrilled with her incredible cast, there was no way Headland would let the immense success of “Bridesmaids” rain on her parade, she stuck to her guns and delivered exactly what she intended to – a fun film well worth repeat viewings.

Review: Bachelorette

A female-driven comedy called “Bachelorette.” It’s got to be like “Bridesmaids,” right? Far from it. Think “Bridesmaids,” but turn the poop to vomit, up the alcohol intake, darken the sense of humor, give Rebel Wilson an American accent and sprinkle some coke on top. That’s “Bachelorette.”

Becky may have been dubbed Pig Face in high school, but she’s getting married before all her friends, and to a nice, successful and good-looking guy, too! Having always gone to the gym, Reagan’s (Kirsten Dunst) quite jealous, but she’s got to suck it up and be a good friend because she’s Becky’s maid of honor. Katie (Isla Fisher) takes a break from bopping around in a fashionista delusion to fly in for the festivities as does Gena (Lizzy Caplan), who’s still coping with her breakup with Clyde (Adam Scott), smoking up a storm and indulging in whatever will make the pain go away.

Back together in the Big Apple, Reagan, Katie and Gena are determined to make their best friend’s wedding a truly special day. Trouble is, snorting a pile of coke isn’t on Becky’s agenda, nor a part of her lifestyle anymore, and when Gena and Katie get out of control, Becky calls it a night. Rather than try to patch things up, Gena, Katie and Reagan continue the party themselves, getting so drunk and high, they decide it’s a good idea to squeeze two people in Becky’s wedding dress. A little stain here, a big rip there and they’ve got one night to get things back in order so Becky can walk down the aisle in her dress.

Interview: Bachelorette’s Kirsten Dunst, Isla Fisher and Lizzy Caplan

“Bachelorette” stars Kirsten Dunst, Isla Fisher and Lizzy Caplan as Regan, Katie and Gena, a trio coming together for their friend Becky’s (Rebel Wilson) wedding. You’d think it’d be a simple process – rehearsal dinner, bachelorette party, wake up, get dressed, walk down the aisle – but thanks to some very poor decision making and a ton of cocaine, the ladies descend into pre-wedding madness, desperately trying to tame their high and fix the mistakes they made so Becky can have the wedding of her dreams.

Really, “Bachelorette” is one of those you’ve-got-to-see-it-to-believe-it type of things and, you know what? So is this roundtable interview. The ladies came to New York City to support the film’s September 7th release and while they had a slew of insightful thoughts on the nature of the material and the process of making “Bachelorette,” just like in the movie, the three actresses have an electric chemistry that sparks quite a bit of humor. Interview: Hot Tub Time Machine Director Steve Pink

Steve Pink had his hands full on the set of Hot Tub Time Machine, in a good way. Not only was he working with a brilliant concept – four guys traveling back in time via hot tub – but he also had four downright hilarious lead actors at his disposal. Pink and John Cusack go way back and share a production company called New Crime Productions. By uniting his buddy and business partner with the likes of Craig Robinson, Rob Corddry and Clark Duke, then tossing in some Chernobyl, booze, a squirrel and, of course, a hot tub, Pink established a recipe for comedic hilarity.

But that’s not even the least of it. Pink also had a fantastic list of supporting cast members including Crispin Glover, Chevy Chase and, his leading ladies, Collette Wolfe and Lizzy Caplan. Top that all off with a set saturated with 80s nostalgia and you’ve got a seriously entertaining throwback.

The guy behind Accepted is back and with an R-rated vengeance nonetheless. Who knew a notch up on the MPAA ratings scale could make such a difference? And that’s coming from someone who truly enjoyed Accepted. Pink delivers big time with Hot Tub Time Machine. Between the movie, this roundtable, some one-on-one time and a chance to party with Pink at the junket in Lake Tahoe, I’m eager to see what the director has up his sleeve for the future. In the meantime, I’ll be going for a second helping of HTTM.

Interview: Hot Tub Time Machine’s Lizzy Caplan and Collette Wolfe

Hot Tub Time Machine may be a film about four guys going back in time via hot tub, but no buddy comedy is complete without some female counterparts to humanize the raucous insanity. In this case those ladies are April and Kelly, and they’re played by Lizzy Caplan and Collette Wolfe.

Way back when, Adam (John Cusack) was really into a girl who didn’t share his feelings. Lucky for him, April, a music reporter following the band Poison, is there to pick up the pieces. Kelly’s situation isn’t as sweet. She has a rather unconventional relationship with Lou (Rob Corddry). In the midst of heaps of hatred and insults, the two actually share a connection.

Wolfe is certainly part of the comedy far more than Caplan, but both actresses have their times to shine and manage to reveal Adam and Lou’s sensitive sides. Check out what Wolfe had to say about her sexy time with Corddry and Caplan about her passion to see more female-driven comedies.

Interview: Hot Tub Time Machine’s Rob Corddry, Craig Robinson and Clark Duke

At first I was disappointed that John Cusack wasn’t able to attend the Hot Tub Time Machine junket out in Lake Tahoe. But after trying to transcribe the roundtable interview with the film’s other three stars, Clark Duke, Rob Corddry and Craig Robinson, one less hot tub time traveler was a blessing.

The four play a group of guys who take a trip to their favorite 80s getaway, Kodiak Valley. The problem is, their partying paradise isn’t quite the same as it was way back when. They throw a private party of their own, which lands the quartet in the hot tub. A little booze, Chernobly and a squirrel later, they end up back in 1986. Yes, it’s as crazy as it sounds.

Rather than writing ‘[Laugh]’ after each comment, I’ll just leave it to you to insert them wherever and whenever you’d like. The guys did provide a number of interesting facts about the film, but, for the most part, this was practically a stand up – er, sitting down comedy show. Interview: Hot Tub Time Machine’s Clark Duke

Clark who? Clarke Duke, a name you should get to know. He played Lance in Sex Drive and is about to get to work on his fourth season ofGreek as Dale. If you haven’t seen either, odds are, you have no idea who the guy is. Well, not only is he in the highly anticipated upcoming superhero movie Kick-Ass, but he also stars alongside Rob Corddry, John Cusack and Craig Robinson in Hot Tub Time Machine.

Duke plays Jacob, one of four guys who time travel via hot tub back to the 80s. Of the group, Jacob is the only one who wasn’t alive in 1986 and is the sole person to retain some sense after the trip and acknowledge the necessity to eventually return home to modern times. Jacob is constantly taunted by his older buddies, particularly by Corddry’s character, the cynical and foul-mouthed Lou.
