‘Catching Fire’: Your Guide to the Victors

catching_fire_character_guide_mainThe 75th Hunger Games is upon us and in honor of the third Quarter Quell, things are going down a little differently. Rather than reaping two contenders between the ages of 12 and 18 from each of the country’s 12 districts, tributes come from the pool of victors. You already know Katniss and Peeta, so meet the experienced killers who will try to steal their title when The Hunger Games: Catching Fire arrives on November 22.

District 1: Cashmere & Gloss

If you’ve seen The Hunger Games, you know what coming from District 1 means – career tributes. Katniss dubs Cashmere and Gloss “classically beautiful” siblings. When she was younger, she watched the pair dominate their games for two consecutive years, which would put the duo in their 20s. The entertainment value of their win streak made Cashmere and Gloss Capitol favorites and now that they’re back, they’re the ones to beat and they know it.

‘The Hunger Games’ Countdown: Halloween, Panem-Style

JenniferLawrenceHauntedHouseWe’ve got a handful of cast photos floating around the Web worth checking out. Woody Harrelson steps out of Haymitch’s shoes to enjoy some Lenny Kravitz music while franchise newcomers Lynn Cohen, Stephanie Leigh Schlund, Meta Golding and Bruno Gunn posed with the cast of Cirque Du Soleil Totem after the show’s premiere. Looks like they’re all having a blast, but the thing that catches my eye is how comfortable Cohen looks hanging out on one of the performer’s back. HG Girl on Fire tracked down a holiday-appropriate shot of Jennifer Lawrence. She may be rough and tough as Katniss, but when it comes to haunted houses, clearly Lawrence is vulnerable to a good scare.

Catching Fires’ Plutarch Heavensbee, Philip Seymour Hoffman, got chatty with The Independent, mainly discussing The Master but also touching on the Hunger Games books, revealing, “I’m in the middle of reading the last one now; they’re very special.” I’ll leave it at that as the second quote is a bit of a spoiler, but if you’d like to read on, check out the full article right here. Toby Jones is on a press tour as well for his upcoming release The Girl, but ET Online got to him about Catching Fire. When asked about the state of the script, Jones responds, “It’s a bit of relief, I must say. I was worried it might just be repetitive, but it’s not. The script is just tremendous!”

‘Catching Fire’ Casting Update: Who’s In, Who’s Out, Who’s Left? (Updated 9/7/12)

Lionsgate really knows how to put on a show. Ever since the confirmation of Philip Seymour Hoffman’s casting as Head Gamemaker Plutarch Heavensbee last month, we’ve had a fairly steady stream of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire casting announcements. News of Amanda Plummer joining as District 3 victor, Wiress, arrived just about a week after Hoffman, and then came word of Jena Malone snagging the role of District 7 victor, Johanna Mason. While every casting addition is worth noting, when you’ve got a movie involving 24 different tributes on top of a number of other characters, it can be pretty tough to keep track of everyone. Lucky for those of you who aren’t wholly consumed by The Hunger Games series or maybe just haven’t read the books, we’ve got a rundown of where we stand on every role.

WHO’S IN

While we still haven’t gotten our Finnick, the past week has brought three new additions. Of the bunch, the first out of the gate was Lynn Cohen as Mags, the District 4 victor. Cohen has a very lengthy resume, but I’m embarrassed to admit, the only thing I instinctively recognized her from is her role as Magda in Sex and the City. Clearly no line can be drawn between that and someone who managed to win the Hunger Games, so that leaves us judging Cohen’s casting based on looks alone and as far as that goes, she’s definitely a winner. Mags is described as an “elderly woman” who’s possibly had a stroke, which left her with “garbled speech” on top of her District 4 accent. What makes her deadly and a survivor in her later years? Apparently she can make a fishhook with just about anything.
