SDCC 2013 Interview: Divergent’s Shailene Woodley & Theo James

Shailene_Woodley_Theo_James_DivergentIt seems as though there’s this never-ending search for the next best thing in the young adult book-to-film adaptation world. What will trump The Twilight Saga? What will match the success of The Hunger Games? With the growing craze, there are loads of possibilities out there, but the one I’ve got my money on is Neil Burger’s Divergent.

At this year’s Comic-Con

Just before hitting Hall H for their highly anticipated panel, Woodley and costar Theo James who plays Four, Beatrice’s faction initiation instructor, sat down to run through the challenges of bringing Veronica Roth’s book to life, their hopes for the film, and even their own personal faction preferences.

SDCC 2013 Interview: Ender’s Game’s Gavin Hood

Enders_GameWhile the widespread success of young adult book-to-film adaptations like The Twilight SagaHarry Potter and The Hunger Games does facilitate some serious potential for a big-screen version of Orson Scott Card’s Ender’s Game, it also comes with the added pressure of ensuring that the Ender’s Game movie stands out.

Just ahead of the Ender’s Game San Diego Comic-Con panel in Hall H, writer-director Gavin Hood sat down to discuss making his mark in the YA-to-film realm and the challenge of doing the beloved book justice, but also noted one specific directorial decision that he hopes will help put the audience in Ender’s head.

SDCC 2013 Interview: Ender’s Game’s Asa Butterfield & Hailee Steinfeld

Asa_Hailee_Enders_GameBefore fielding rapid-fire Q&A questions at the Ender’s Game panel at San Diego Comic-Con, Asa Butterfield and Hailee Steinfeld sat down and had some fun telling us how they might fare if they ever really had to compete in the Ender’s Game Battle Room.

At this year’s Comic-Con

Butterfield and Steinfeld sat down to talk about being suspended in a zero gravity environment, and something called a “hamster wheel” but for people. Said Steinfeld:

“We were training in terms of strengthening our core and all this intense stuff… and we got there and none of it came in handy because you’re literally out there on wires, like, feet up in the air.”

SDCC 2013 Interview: The Mortal Instruments’ Jamie Campbell Bower

Jamie_Campbell_BowerIf The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones isn’t on your radar, after Saturday’s Hall H panel, it should be. Screen Gems unveiled an impressively suspenseful and rather brutal sequence from the film that culminates in an ideal payoff – Jamie Campbell Bower’s Jace Wayland nonchalantly stepping in to save the day.

At This Year’s Comic-Con

Just ahead of The Mortal Instruments’ run in Hall H, Bower sat down to talk about his string of good luck with young adult book-to-film adaptations, his issue with “smelly acting,” and loads more. He also dropped a hint about a certain Easter egg that’s worth keeping an eye out for when the film hits theaters on August 21:

“There’s an Easter egg, but I don’t know if I want to ruin it. Listen for somebody’s name who’s involved in the film … but is not a character. That’s all I can say.”

Comic-Con 2012: Our Most Anticipated Events

The first rule of San Diego Comic-Con is that there’s absolutely no way to get to everything. The second rule of San Diego Comic-Con (or SDCC) is … try to get to everything. And we here at Movies.com will attempt to do just that, or at the very least bring back a taste of the big events everyone will be talking about come this time next week.

What are some of those events, and what should you expect from our coverage? Click through to find out what we’re looking forward to most as the country’s biggest geek-friendly convention prepares to infiltrate our nerdy hearts later this week.

The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2

Thursday 12:45 – 1:45 in Hall H

The non-Twihards might resent this, but what bigger way to open San Diego Comic-Con 2012 than with a panel for the final Twilight movie? The very first film to grace comic-con’s legendary Hall H will be the final installment of The Twilight Saga, Breaking Dawn – Part 2. This will (probably) be the last time Team Edward and Team Jacob supporters will get the chance to camp outside the San Diego Convention Center for a Twilight movie, so expect the crowd to be bigger than ever. Once the crowd files in and the panel actually begins, Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner, Peter Facinelli, Nikki Reed, Jackson Rathbone, Ashley Greene, Kellan Lutz and newcomer Mackenzie Foywill all be on hand, answering questions and previewing footage.

SDCC 2012 Interview: Nikita’s Shane West

Before jumping into our interview with Shane West of “Nikita,” if you’re not fully caught up on the show, you’ve either got to heed this SPOILER ALERT or just embrace the influx of current story and character insight.

West is Michael, the object of Nikita’s (Maggie Q) affection. His feelings for her as well as his strong feelings against Percy (Xander Berkeley) compelled him to ditch Percy’s corrupt organization and adopt Nikita’s goal of putting an end to Division. The status of that goal? Complete. So now what? Run Division themselves, that’s what.

While promoting the show at San Diego Comic Con, West sat down to address season three’s trajectory, the flood of new villains, heading back to Division and more. Hear it all straight from West himself in the video below.

SDCC 2012 Interview: Nikita’s Maggie Q

Any new season brings a big shift for a show’s lead, but in the case of “Nikita,” the show’s third season takes Maggie Q’s character in an entirely new direction. Not caught up on both seasons of “Nikita?” It might be a good idea to mind this SPOILER ALERT as this interview is oozing with season one and two plot details as well as hints at what’s to come during round three.

For all of seasons one and two Nikita has had one goal and one goal only – take down Percy (Xander Berkeley) and bring down Division with him. Well, as of the finale of season two, mission accomplished, so Nikita’s going to have to switch gears completely.

What’s the outlook on life back at Division for Nikita? Who’s her next target? How has the experience changed for Q herself? Hear all about that and much more in the video interview below.

SDCC 2012: Resident Evil: Retribution Panel Live Blog

Round five of the “Resident Evil” franchise is due out on September 14th, so what better way to build hype than by having Alice herself grace Hall H? Not only is Milla Jovovich coming in for Screen Gems’ “Resident Evil: Retribution” panel, but Michelle Rodriguez, Oded Fehr, Boris Kodjoe, Mika Nakashima and writer-director Paul W.S. Anderson will be in the house as well. We’ve seen a fair amount of trailers, clips and posters, but supposedly the gang will have an exclusive preview of the new film to share.

In case you’re just joining us now, be sure to keep refreshing the page to get the latest from the panel.

4:10 – Here comes the moderator, Ralph Garman. He calls film five the biggest of them all.

4:11 – First up is Paul W.S. Anderson. He takes the stage to chat a bit before revealing some never before seen footage. “This movie really goes above and beyond any of the ‘Resident Evil’ movies so far.” He says it was important to make the film big as far as scale goes, but small as well to keep the focus on Milla’s character.

SDCC 2012: Game Of Thrones Panel Live Blog

Ready for another big one? Alfie Allen, Emilia Clarke, Michelle Fairley, Kit Harington, Lena Headey, Richard Madden, George R. R. Martin and executive producer Carolyn Strauss are all due to hit Hall H at 2:45pm for the “Game of Thrones” panel. Season two only wrapped a month ago, so the group very likely won’t have any visuals to share, but the conversation still should be packed with details, or at least hints at details, of season three.

It’s business as usual, so be sure to keep refreshing the page so you can catch the latest information as it pours in.

2:50 – Things begin with George R.R. Martin. He steps on stage and notes, “There are even more of you than last year!” He thanks everyone for coming. He says he spoke with the showrunners this morning and that they regret they cannot be at the panel today, but gets some cheers when he announces they’re off shooting season three.

SDCC 2012: The Walking Dead Panel Live Blog

And we’re back! Took a little break during “The Big Bang Theory” panel, as I don’t watch the show, but I’ve got to admit, the chat was absolutely hilarious and makes me want to finally check it out. As obnoxious as this sounds, in all honesty, it was kind of a you-had-to-be-there thing. The fan Q&A was packed with odd questions and a rather large number of children, and the naturally amusing cast kept the crowd laughing the entire time. Someone will probably post the event on YouTube, so keep an eye out, as, fan or not, it’s worth checking out.

But now it’s time for a show that I not only watch, but am absolutely obsessed with, AMC’s “The Walking Dead.” Andrew Lincoln, Sarah Wayne Callies, Norman Reedus, Laurie Holden, Steven Yeun, Lauren Cohan, newcomers Danai Gurira and David Morrissey, executive producer and showrunner Glen Mazzara, executive producer Robert Kirkman, executive producer Gale Anne Hurd, executive producer Dave Alpert and special effects makeup supervisor and co-executive producer Greg Nicotero are all set to take the stage to field some questions and present a sneak preview of the new season. Be sure to keep refreshing this page for live updates from Hall H!
